## Why +1 does not settle the country

The [North American Numbering Plan Administrator](https://nanpa.com/about)  says the +1 calling code covers the United States, Canada and other participating territories. Its national numbers have an area code and seven-digit local number. Choosing “United States” in this directory is therefore more precise than looking only for +1. Keep the country selection aligned with the receiving service's own form. A +1 prefix alone cannot prove the supplier's current number origin or classification.

## Make the US choice for the right reason

Use US only if the service asks for or permits a US number. If it offers a separate country selector and phone field, follow that form's instructions instead of adding +1 twice.
