Temporary number for Telegram SMS verification
A temporary number can receive a Telegram code only if Telegram accepts that number and chooses SMS during the active order. If you are signed in on another device, Telegram may send the code inside its app instead. Keep a number you control for an account you intend to use later.

Identify the code channel first
Telegram says a login code may arrive in its verified in-app chat on a device where you are already signed in. In that case, there is no SMS for ReadyOTP to display. Check that chat and the exact login screen before assuming an empty SMS tab means delivery failed. Telegram also documents a phone-call route only for accounts with two-step verification enabled; a short inbound SMS order does not provide a voice-call fallback.

Decide whether the number must last
A Telegram account stays tied to a phone number after the first code. Telegram advises keeping control of that number because losing it can mean losing account access. A ReadyOTP activation ends at the expiry shown after assignment and cannot promise the same number for a new device or later sign-in. If this is an account you will keep, choose a line you can retain and consider Telegram's own security options while you still have access.

Follow one order without confusing the screens

If the code is missing
Telegram sent an in-app code: use the connected Telegram session; the SMS order cannot receive an app message. Telegram rejects the number: read its error and country or number-type rule; waiting longer does not change eligibility. Telegram says it sent SMS but the order is empty: compare the exact assigned number, international format and active expiry, then follow the no-SMS checklist. The empty inbox alone cannot tell which system stopped the message.
